| I
make fabric landscapes because I like the challenge of creating the "ordinary"
(a landscape) out of the "extraordinary" (fabric). I like the feel
of working with fabric, and enjoy manipulating it to create hills, water,
trees, etc.
The biggest challenge for me is to find the right balance between simple piecing and more involved embellishing. I want the simplicity of each piece to draw the viewer into a peaceful time and/or place within themselves, when life was good and they felt content. However, I also want the landscape to look real, which frequently calls for at least a small amount of embellishment. The balance changes with each piece, which keeps me interested, and, hopefully, growing and improving. |
