Spencer-Rodgers presently resides in Grand Island, Nebraska . She
is a retired art teacher and part owner of the Prairie Winds Art Center
in that city. She was once named the Nebraska Art Teacher of the
Year, received the Roscoe Shields Award for outstanding contributions to
art education, and was named the Nebraska Wesleyan Artist-Educator of the
Year. She holds a Masters Degree in art education with an emphasis
on watercolor. In addition to being a working artist, she conducts
watercolor workshops and judges art exhibits. Dee is also a member of GrowNebraska.
Her
paintings have been exhibited extensively in the Mid-West, where she has
received numerous awards. Her work has been chosen for the permanent
collection of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, University of Nebraska,
Lincoln Alumni Association, Museum of Nebraska Art, and Nebraska Wesleyan
University. She was the Artist in Residence for the Stuhr Museum
of the Prairie Pioneer for seven years, and served as president of the
Association of Nebraska Art Clubs.
Her
work is primarily nature-oriented through landscape and floral images.
She gets her inspiration from the time lapse growth of plants and the beauty
of the world around her. The vibrant colors of floral pieces reflect
the spiritual quality of our environment. The use of watercolor and
water media, helps to enhance the fluidity of her subjects, and reflects
a style that is unique.
